AI tools
Writing, image, video and voice apps sit beside developer frameworks and support agents. Pricing separates them more than features, so check each usage allowance.

About AI tools
This is the AI section of our software database: 677 tools in 13 subcategories, from writing assistants and image, video and voice generators to developer frameworks and agents that answer support tickets or phone calls. Pricing separates them more than features do. 515 have a free plan, usually rationed by credits, messages or words, and the median listed starting price is $19/mo. Developer tools take most of the top scores in our reviews, led by GitHub and the Vercel AI SDK; ChatGPT Plus is the highest-scoring consumer app.
What to compare before you choose
Credits, tokens or a flat fee
More than a quarter of AI tools meter usage: credits on image and video generators, tokens on model APIs, minutes on voice agents. A low monthly price can hide a small allowance, so estimate your real volume, including failed attempts, and compare what each plan buys before comparing headline prices.
App, API or code library
Many top-scoring entries are built for developers: Instructor is a code library, which our review flags for non-developers, and Openrouter is an API billed per use. If you need something you can use in a browser today, check the ease score and the subcategory before the overall score.
Individual plan or business tier
Consumer plans rarely include team controls: our review points ChatGPT Plus users who need SSO and admin controls to Business or Enterprise, and flags DeepSeek for strict data-sovereignty requirements. If data must stay in-house, self-hosted options such as Open Webui exist, at the cost of setup work.
