The bottom line

Polished website annotation for design teams, but the 2025 pricing jump to $79/mo makes it hard to recommend without evaluating cheaper alternatives first.

What it really is

Markup.io — visual annotation and feedback tool for live websites and creative assets.

Our take

Markup.io lets teams pin comments directly onto live web pages, images, and PDFs in-browser, cutting revision-cycle email chains. The DB lists it as Freemium, but Markup.io retired its free plan in 2025; the only entry point is now a $79/mo Pro plan (30-day trial, credit card required). It is a paid-only tool, not freemium.

Why we rate it

The in-browser annotation UX is genuinely seamless — stakeholders click a URL, drop a pin, and leave a comment without installing anything. For teams whose whole workflow is client review on live sites, it removes a lot of friction.

The catch

A 172% price hike in 2025 (from $29 to $79/mo) with no free tier left makes the entry bar high. Pro is limited to one workspace, which pushes multi-client agencies straight toward the custom Enterprise tier.

Best for
Design agencies running iterative client reviews on live websites
Product teams collecting stakeholder feedback on staging environments
Teams replacing screenshot-heavy email review threads
Not good for
Solo freelancers or small teams sensitive to $79/mo flat cost
Teams needing multiple workspaces without going Enterprise
Feedback on native mobile apps or desktop software
Friction report
Time to value
Fast: share a URL, invite a reviewer, start pinning comments in under five minutes — no install required.
Scale breakpoint
The single-workspace Pro limit breaks at agencies managing multiple client accounts; forces an Enterprise conversation at undisclosed pricing.
Walled garden
Moderate: comments and markups live inside Markup.io; integrations with Slack and Jira exist but full export of threaded annotations is limited.
