The bottom line

The definitive managed WordPress platform for enterprise publishers who can't afford downtime — but the $25K/year floor puts it firmly out of SMB reach.

What it really isWordPress VIP — enterprise-grade managed WordPress hosting and content platform by Automattic.
Our takeWordPress VIP is the gold-standard managed platform for high-traffic enterprise publishers, powering global newsrooms and Fortune 500 content operations.
There is no free trial; it uses fully custom enterprise pricing starting at $25,000/year based on monthly unique visitors. Three tiers (Standard, Enhanced, Signature) differ on SLA uptime, support response times, and advanced features like Technical Account Management and disaster recovery.
Why we rate itWordPress VIP stands apart by marrying the world's most-used CMS with true enterprise infrastructure — Automattic's backbone, meaningful SLAs, and named technical account managers.
For publishers where downtime is a business crisis, this is the right tool.
The catchMinimum ~$25,000/year contract with no self-serve signup or free trial makes this inaccessible to all but well-funded enterprise teams.
Development and design are not included, adding significant additional cost.

Best / not good for

Best for
  • Global news publishers and media companies with high traffic volumes
  • Enterprise content teams needing strict SLAs and compliance-grade security
  • Organizations already invested in the WordPress ecosystem seeking managed scale
Not good for
  • SMBs or startups without a $25K+ annual infrastructure budget
  • Teams wanting a self-serve signup or free trial to evaluate before committing
  • Non-WordPress stacks or headless CMS-only architectures
Trade-offs

Friction report

Trade-offs to know before signing up.

  1. Time to value
Slow: requires sales engagement, contract negotiation, and a targeted 30-day migration timeline before going live.
  2. Scale breakpoint
Pricing is reassessed when traffic consistently exceeds contracted monthly unique visitors, which can trigger significant cost increases at massive scale.
  3. Walled garden
Moderate: built on open-source WordPress so content and data are portable, but deep platform integrations (VIP Search, editorial workflows, APM) create migration friction.
Still a fit?
