What it really is

MailerLite — email marketing platform for small businesses, bloggers, and creators.

Our take

MailerLite is a well-rounded freemium email marketing suite covering campaigns, automations, landing pages, pop-ups, and a basic website builder — all in a clean, beginner-friendly interface. The DB entry price of $9/mo is outdated; the current Comfort (entry paid) plan starts at $12/mo, and the free tier now caps at 250 active subscribers (not the 1,000 previously listed). It sits comfortably between bare-bones tools like Brevo's free tier and heavy-hitters like ActiveCampaign.

Why we rate it

MailerLite punches above its price point — the drag-and-drop builder is genuinely polished, deliverability rates are strong, and the free tier is a real working product (not a trial in disguise). The addition of a website builder and digital product selling at no extra cost adds meaningful value for solopreneurs.

The catch

Automation branching logic and advanced segmentation are less capable than Klaviyo or ActiveCampaign; the free plan's 250-subscriber cap is tighter than many competitors; and the template library is smaller than older platforms.

Best for
Bloggers and newsletter writers scaling from zero to ~50K subscribers
Small e-commerce stores wanting email + landing pages in one tool
Non-profits and solopreneurs on tight budgets needing a real free tier
Not good for
High-volume senders needing complex multi-branch automation workflows
Enterprise teams requiring deep CRM integration and advanced reporting
Businesses with 200K+ subscribers expecting flat-rate pricing
Friction report
Time to value
Fast — no credit card required; first campaign can be sent within 30 minutes of signup thanks to guided onboarding and the drag-and-drop editor.
Scale breakpoint
Costs scale with subscriber count on every plan; power users hitting 50K+ subscribers will find per-plan pricing meaningful, and automation depth may become a ceiling before budget does.
Walled garden
Low — list exports are unrestricted and standard integrations (Shopify, WooCommerce, Zapier, Make) cover most migration paths; no proprietary format lock-in.
