The bottom line

One of the best-value shift schedulers on the market — the free plan alone covers most small teams, and paid tiers add time-tracking and payroll export for a dollar or two per user.

What it really is

Zoho Shifts — employee shift scheduling and time-tracking SaaS for SMBs.

Our take

Zoho Shifts is a purpose-built workforce scheduling tool covering shift planning, swap management, time clock, GPS geofencing, and payroll export. The DB mislabels this as 'free_trial' with a $2/user/mo entry — in reality it's freemium: a permanent free plan supports up to 25 users, while paid tiers start at $1/user/mo (Basic) and $2/user/mo (Standard). Category 'Productivity & Collaboration' undersells it; this is firmly workforce/shift management.

Why we rate it

At $1–2/user/mo with a genuinely usable free tier, Zoho Shifts undercuts nearly every competitor while still delivering GPS geofencing, payroll export, and a clean mobile experience. It's the rare scheduling tool where the free plan isn't a teaser.

The catch

Minimum 10 users on paid plans makes it awkward for very small teams. Deep payroll and HR integrations are strongest within the Zoho ecosystem; businesses on non-Zoho stacks will rely on generic payroll export files.

Best for
Retail and hospitality managers scheduling hourly shift workers
SMBs wanting GPS clock-in and overtime rules without enterprise pricing
Teams already in the Zoho ecosystem (Zoho People, Zoho Payroll)
Not good for
Enterprises needing deep HRIS or ERP integration outside Zoho
Teams under 10 people who want paid features without a user minimum
Organizations requiring complex union rules or predictive scheduling compliance
Friction report
Time to value
Fast: free plan requires no credit card; first schedule can be built within minutes of signup.
Scale breakpoint
Per-user costs stack linearly; at 200+ users, dedicated workforce platforms may offer better-negotiated rates.
Walled garden
Moderate: payroll export and REST API allow data portability, but advanced automation flows work best inside the Zoho app suite.
