Frequently Asked Questions

What is Papra?

Papra is an open-source document management and archiving platform. You collect receipts, contracts and scans in one place, tag them automatically and search them later, either on your own server or in Papra's European cloud.

Is Papra free?

Yes, two ways. Self-hosting is free under AGPL-3.0. The cloud Free plan gives 512MB of storage, 3 members per organization, 25MB uploads and 1 intake email (checked 4 October 2026).

How much does Papra cloud cost?

Plus is $9 a month or $7.50 a month billed yearly ($90), with 5GB and 10 members. Pro is $30 a month or $25 a month billed yearly ($300), with 50GB and 50 members. Enterprise is custom (checked 4 October 2026).

Does Papra have OCR?

Its GitHub README lists automatic text extraction from images and scanned documents so they show up in search. For multi-language OCR and machine-learning tagging, Paperless-ngx documents more depth.

Papra or Paperless-ngx: which should I choose?

Pick Paperless-ngx if you want deeper processing such as Tesseract OCR in 100+ languages, ML auto-tagging and workflows, and you are happy to self-host. Pick Papra for a lighter setup or if you want a hosted cloud option.

Is there a Papra mobile app?

Not from Papra yet. The README lists a mobile app, desktop app and browser extension as coming soon. Third-party apps exist, but they are not made by Papra.
