Conversion Gems editorial verdict
Enterprise from ~$16K/yr (custom pricing)
Features8/10
8 - industry-leading codebase context; strong agentic edits and multi-LLM support; loses a point for discontinued individual tiers.
Value5/10
5 - $16K+ floor is prohibitive for most; enterprise credit model is opaque, though volume pricing helps large teams.
Ease of use4/10
4 - enterprise-only onboarding, contract negotiation, and Sourcegraph infra dependency make setup non-trivial.
Ecosystem8/10
8 - VS Code, JetBrains, Neovim extensions; MCP server; API/CLI; integrates with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Gerrit.
Support7/10
7 - 24x5 enterprise support with upgrade options; community access limited since free tier retired.
What it really is

Cody by Sourcegraph — AI coding assistant with whole-codebase context for enterprise engineering teams.

Our take

The DB describes Cody as a generic 'AI business assistant for knowledge workflows,' which is incorrect. Cody is Sourcegraph's AI coding assistant — it autocompletes code, chats about your codebase, and runs agentic edits using cross-repo context from millions of lines of code. Sourcegraph retired the Free and Pro consumer tiers in July 2025; Cody is now exclusively an enterprise product starting at ~$16K/year.

Why we rate it

Cody's whole-codebase context is genuinely differentiated for enterprise monorepos. Admin-selectable LLMs (Claude 3.7, GPT-4o, Gemini), air-gap deployment, SOC 2, and no-training guarantees make it a credible enterprise choice.

The catch

No free or SMB tier since July 2025 — enterprise contract and minimum spend required. Individuals are redirected to the separate Amp product.

Best for
Large engineering orgs with Sourcegraph code search already in place
Enterprise teams needing SOC 2, self-hosted, or air-gapped AI coding
Monorepo shops where cross-repo context is critical
Not good for
Individual developers or freelancers (no free or affordable solo plan)
Small teams without enterprise budgets
Non-developers looking for a knowledge-base chatbot
Friction report
Time to value
Slow: enterprise contract negotiation, admin setup, and Sourcegraph deployment required before developers see value.
Scale breakpoint
Credit pooling and cost management become complex above ~200 seats; requires dedicated admin ownership.
Walled garden
High: deep integration with Sourcegraph's own stack; switching means losing cross-repo context features and re-onboarding to another tool.
