Features7/10
7 - strong reference automation, fraud detection, and passive-candidate capture; limited beyond the reference-check use case.
Value5/10
5 - opaque enterprise-only pricing with no public tiers makes ROI hard to evaluate before a sales call.
Ease of use8/10
8 - three-step flow (recruiter → candidate → references) is intuitive; 2-minute mobile surveys keep reference completion rates high.
Ecosystem7/10
7 - integrates with major ATS platforms (iCIMS, Workday, Greenhouse, etc.) and is GDPR/CCPA compliant.
Support6/10
6 - enterprise-level support expected via Harver, but no self-serve or community support tier is publicly documented.

What it really is

Checkster (by Harver) — automated reference-checking platform for HR and recruiting teams.

Our take

Checkster replaces manual reference phone calls with structured digital surveys that references complete in about 2 minutes on any device. Now part of Harver's talent acquisition suite (checkster.com redirects to Harver), it is sold as 'Checkster, by Harver.' The DB mislabels it under 'Project Management & Productivity' — it is firmly an HR/recruitment tool. Pricing is enterprise-custom with no public tiers, so the DB's 'Freemium' label is also incorrect.

Why we rate it

Checkster solves a genuine bottleneck — the reference check — by automating what was a slow, phone-tag-heavy process. Fraud detection and passive-candidate capture are real differentiators that go beyond simple survey delivery.

The catch

No public pricing — you must engage a sales cycle for any plan. As a Harver-integrated product, full value depends on the broader Harver contract, making it less attractive as a standalone point solution for smaller teams.

Best for
High-volume recruiting teams drowning in manual reference calls
Enterprise HR orgs needing ATS-integrated, compliance-ready reference data
Talent acquisition teams wanting to source passive candidates from the reference pool
Not good for
Small businesses or startups that make only occasional hires
Teams needing fully transparent self-serve pricing before engaging sales
Organizations looking for a broad HRIS or performance management platform
Friction report
Time to value
Fast: recruiter adds a candidate, candidate submits references, and reports return within 24 hours — no phone scheduling required.
Scale breakpoint
At very large volume, enterprise contract negotiations and ATS integration setup can slow initial deployment.
Walled garden
Moderate: reference data and reports live inside the Harver/Checkster platform; exports exist but workflow is tightly coupled to their system.
