The bottom line

Cheap, capable proof-of-work tracking; mind the short data retention and the stealth-mode question.

What it really isA per-user employee monitoring app that proves hours with screenshots, activity levels and timesheets.
Our takeIf you pay people by the hour and clients want proof, Monitask gives you screenshots, activity levels and timesheets at a low per-user price, with monthly billing.
Pick Business if you need app and website reports, since Pro skips them. Export what you need regularly, because history only goes back one or two months.
Why we rate itCovers screenshots, activity, app and URL tracking, timesheets and payroll across six platforms for less per user than ActivTrak's paid plans.
The catchOne or two months of data history below Enterprise, no free plan, and stealth mode shifts the legal and trust risk onto the employer.

Trade-offs

Friction report

Trade-offs to know before signing up.

  1. Time to value
Sign up, invite staff, they install the app and clock in; tracking starts the same day.
  2. Scale breakpoint
Enterprise needs 100+ employees; extra screenshot frequency adds a per-license fee.
  3. Walled garden
Medium: data storage is limited to 1 or 2 months below Enterprise, so export reports regularly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Monitask cost?

Per user per month, Pro costs $7.99 billed monthly or $6.49 billed annually, Business $10.99 or $8.99, and Business Premium $15.99 or $12.99 (checked 4 October 2026). Enterprise is quote-based and only for 100+ employees. Higher screenshot frequencies are a paid add-on.

Is Monitask free?

No. There is no free plan, but every plan comes with a 10-day trial that includes all features and needs no credit card (checked 4 October 2026).

Does Monitask record your screen?

It takes screenshots, not video. Screenshots are captured at random or fixed intervals only while the employee is clocked in, and Smartblur can blur them. Monitask says it does not record keystrokes.

Can employees tell if Monitask is running?

In normal mode the app is visible and employees clock in themselves. In stealth mode, which every plan includes, employees receive no notifications. Monitask says this is legal on company computers, but rules on monitoring and notice vary by country and state, so check before turning it on.

How does Monitask work?

Employees install the desktop or mobile app and clock in to a project. While they are clocked in, Monitask logs time, activity levels, apps and websites, and screenshots, and managers review it all in a live dashboard and reports.

How long does Monitask keep data?

The pricing page lists 1 month of data storage on Pro and 2 months on Business and Business Premium. Enterprise storage is custom.
