The company behind Codeium renamed itself Windsurf on 4 April 2025, after its Windsurf Editor, and renamed the Codeium extensions to Windsurf Plugins. Cognition, the maker of Devin, announced a definitive agreement to acquire Windsurf on 14 July 2025.

On 2 June 2026 Windsurf became Devin Desktop: the same IDE under the Devin brand, with existing plans and settings carried over. codeium.com and windsurf.com now redirect to devin.ai.

Our takeCodeium started as a free autocomplete extension, launched the Windsurf Editor in November 2024, renamed itself Windsurf in April 2025, agreed to be acquired by Cognition in July 2025, and became Devin Desktop in June 2026.

Today it is a full IDE with an Agent Command Center for running several coding agents, the Devin Local agent (successor to Cascade) and access to models from several providers. The free plan still includes unlimited Tab completions and inline edits.
